Taiwo Awoniyi came off the bench to seal a crucial win for Nottingham Forest as they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 away in a high stakes Premier League clash.
Forest delivered a disciplined and clinical performance, striking at key moments to secure three vital points in their fight against relegation while piling more pressure on Spurs.
The breakthrough came right on the stroke of half time when Neco Williams swung in a dangerous corner from the left. Igor Jesus rose highest at the far post and powered a header back across goal beyond Guglielmo Vicario to give Forest the lead.
Forest doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute through Morgan Gibbs-White after excellent work from Callum Hudson-Odoi. The winger drove into the box before cutting the ball back perfectly for Gibbs-White, who was left unmarked and calmly finished past Vicario.
The visitors sealed the victory late on when Awoniyi made his mark in the 87th minute. Another pinpoint delivery from Williams found the Nigerian striker at the far post, and he got ahead of Kevin Danso to volley home expertly on the move. His celebration drew attention as he removed his shirt to reveal the message “GOD IS THE GREATEST”.
Taiwo Awoniyi, who replaced Igor Jesus in the 71st minute, needed just one attempt on goal to make the difference, scoring his second league goal of the season despite limited involvement, with only six touches during his time on the pitch.
Defensively, Ola Aina delivered a solid performance across the full 90 minutes, contributing three clearances, two interceptions and completing 29 of 35 passes as Forest held firm at the back.
The result lifts Nottingham Forest to 16th on the table with 32 points, giving them a three point cushion above the relegation zone. For Tottenham, the defeat continues a worrying run, with the London side still searching for their first Premier League win of 2026.
