Frank Onyeka delivered a commanding midfield performance as Coventry City eased to a 3-0 win over Swansea City in their Sky Bet Championship clash.

The game began as a fairly even contest, with both sides creating chances, but Coventry took complete control late in the first half with a devastating spell that saw them score three goals in quick succession.

The breakthrough came when Brandon Thomas-Asante converted from the penalty spot after Ephron Mason-Clark was brought down in the area. Moments later, Onyeka’s influence became decisive as his delivery into the box led to the second goal. The ball eventually fell kindly to Matt Grimes, who punished his former club with a well-struck volley from 20 yards that went in off the post.

Onyeka continued to pull the strings in midfield and was again involved in the third goal. Another dangerous cross from the Nigerian found its way to Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, whose effort at the far post beat goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux with the help of a deflection.

Despite trailing heavily at the break, Swansea had their moments in the first half, with Josh Tymon hitting the crossbar and Melker Widell striking the post shortly after the second goal. Gonçalo Franco also came close but headed narrowly wide from close range.

The second half saw Coventry manage the game comfortably, limiting Swansea’s attacking threat while creating additional chances of their own through Thomas-Asante and Ellis Simms, although neither could add to the scoreline.

Frank Onyeka completed the full 90 minutes in an impressive all-round display, finishing with 49 touches, three recoveries and 25 successful passes from 32 attempts. He also had a shot blocked and picked up a yellow card in the 72nd minute, underlining his combative presence in midfield.

The victory marks Coventry’s seventh win in their last eight matches and strengthens their push for promotion, while Swansea’s unbeaten home run comes to an end as they remain outside the play-off places.
