Former Kwara United head coach Tunde Sanni has taken up a new managerial role in the Benin Republic after being appointed by Jeunesse Sportive de Pobè ahead of the upcoming season.

Sanni becomes one of the notable Nigerian tacticians working in the Benin Premier League, joining compatriot Salisu Yusuf, who is currently in charge of Coton FC. The move marks a fresh chapter for the experienced coach following his departure from Nigeria Premier Football League side Kwara United last year.

Jeunesse Sportive de Pobè, popularly known as JSP, endured a difficult 2024 2025 campaign, finishing 14th in the 18 team Benin Premier League table with 16 points. The club recorded three wins and seven draws from 17 matches and will be aiming for significant improvement under their new manager. Based in Pobè in south eastern Benin Republic, the club is looking to rebuild and climb the standings in the forthcoming season.

Tunde Sanni, who previously handled ABS Ilorin FC and Kwara United in the NPFL, is expected to rely on his experience in Nigeria’s top flight and continental competitions to stabilise and strengthen the squad.

“Yes, I’m now in Benin Republic with Jeunesse Sportive de Pobè. I’m grateful to God for this opportunity,” Sanni told Completesports.com when contacted.

“We’ll talk later,” he added.

Although specific details of his contract were not disclosed, the agreement was signed on Tuesday, confirming his official appointment.

Sanni’s last role was with Kwara United, where he parted ways with the club in October 2025 after a run of poor results in both the NPFL and the CAF Confederation Cup. The Harmony Boys suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Abia Warriors in Ilorin shortly after being eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup by Ghanaian side Asante Kotoko on a 5-3 aggregate scoreline. The disappointing outcomes led the club’s management to ask him to step aside as technical adviser.

Despite the abrupt end to his tenure, Tunde Sanni enjoyed a historic moment with Kwara United earlier in 2025 when he guided the club to their first major trophy. In June 2025, they lifted the President Federation Cup after defeating Abakaliki FC 4-3 on penalties, a landmark achievement in the club’s history.

His appointment at Jeunesse Sportive de Pobè now offers an opportunity to begin a new project in Benin Republic and attempt to turn around the fortunes of a side that struggled last season.
