Austria turned on the style in the second half to overpower Ghana 5-1 in an international friendly, as Jordan Ayew’s goal proved only a brief consolation for the Black Stars in Vienna, Trybal News reports.
Played at the Ernst Happel Stadium, the contest began on an even note, with both sides showing intent and discipline. Ghana, set up by Otto Addo, held their shape well in the opening half and limited clear chances despite Austria’s early pressure.
The breakthrough came when Marcel Sabitzer converted from the penalty spot after a foul in the box, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
After halftime, Austria stepped up the tempo and quickly took control. Michael Gregoritsch doubled the lead before Stefan Posch added a third, leaving Ghana struggling to cope with the intensity.
Ghana found a moment of relief in the 77th minute when Ayew finished well to make it 3-1, briefly raising hopes of a late response. However, Austria responded immediately, with Carney Chukwuemeka producing a fine effort to restore their dominance.
The scoring was completed late on by Nicolas Seiwald, capping a ruthless second-half display from the home side.
Despite several substitutions aimed at changing the momentum, Ghana could not recover as Austria comfortably saw out the result. The Black Stars will now look to regroup quickly ahead of their next friendly against Germany.
