Turkish giants Fenerbahce are moving closer to completing the signing of Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, with negotiations between both clubs now at an advanced stage. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that discussions have intensified in recent days as the Istanbul side push to wrap up a deal before the January transfer window closes.

Atalanta are understood to be holding out for a total package worth around €40 million, made up of a €35 million upfront payment and an additional €5 million in performance related add ons. While there is reportedly a verbal agreement on the overall valuation, the two clubs are still working through the structure of the payments and the conditions attached to the deal, which remain the final obstacles to completion.

Fenerbahce’s sporting director Devin Özek has travelled to Italy to help conclude talks, a move that underlines the club’s strong desire to secure Lookman’s signature as soon as possible. However, Romano has also revealed that Atlético Madrid have made contact with Atalanta in recent hours to enquire about the terms of the deal, adding further competition for the Nigerian international.

Ademola Lookman has been identified as a key target for Fenerbahce as they look to strengthen their attacking options for the second half of the season and push for success both domestically and in Europe. If finalised, the move would stand as one of the biggest transfers of the January window and a significant statement of intent from the Turkish club.

The 26 year old previously sought a move away from Atalanta last summer after accusing the club of broken promises and temporarily refusing to play. Inter Milan made several attempts to sign him, but their bids were rejected, leading Lookman to issue a public statement expressing his frustration at the situation.

Despite earlier mixed spells in the Premier League, Lookman has thrived in Italy, becoming a central figure at Atalanta and earning the African Player of the Year award in 2024, a rise in form that has now attracted strong interest from across Europe.
