Emmanuel Fernandez has expressed his excitement after earning a first call up to the Nigeria national football team (Super Eagles), admitting it was an opportunity he could never turn down.
The Rangers FC centre back was named in the 23 man squad by head coach Éric Chelle ahead of the upcoming international friendlies, putting him in line for a possible debut on the senior stage.
Nigeria are scheduled to face Iran national football team and Jordan national football team, fixtures that will offer Fernandez the chance to prove himself and stake a claim in the squad.
Reacting to the call up, the defender in a chat with OwnGoalNigeria made it clear that representing Nigeria had always been a dream he was ready to embrace.
“When the call came in from Nigeria, I couldn’t say no.
“There was no way I would turn down a chance to play for a great football nation like Nigeria.
“The idea is to go in there and try and make my mark.”
Fernandez now heads into camp determined to impress as the Super Eagles begin preparations for their next phase under Chelle.
