Nigerian billionaire and philanthropist, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has decided to fulfil his $500,000 pledge to the Super Eagles despite the team’s defeat to Morocco on Wednesday night.
Nigeria’s journey in the tournament came to an end after a tough battle against the Atlas Lions, but Rabiu insisted that the result does not take away from the courage, passion and commitment shown by the players throughout the competition.
In a message shared on his social media platform, Rabiu praised the team for giving there all on the pitch and making Nigerians proud, even in defeat.
You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud, he said.
Acknowledging that football does not always reward effort with victory, the businessman stressed that the spirit, unity and fighting mentality displayed by the Super Eagles deserved recognition.
As a token of appreciation for your remarkable journey and effort, I am still going ahead to fulfil the pledge of $500,000 USD. This is in recognition of your hard work, dedication, and the joy you have brought to our nation, the message added.
Rabiu also encouraged the team to remain positive, noting that the experience and lessons from the tournament will fuel greater success ahead, while reaffirming that Nigeria remains proud of the Super Eagles and believes in their future victories.
