Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey delivered a commanding performance at the back as Fulham F.C. secured an impressive 3-1 away victory over Sunderland A.F.C. to move back into the top half of the Premier League table.
Fulham approached the fixture determined to end a three game losing streak and produced a disciplined first half performance before taking firm control after the break. The breakthrough came in the 54th minute when Raul Jimenez rose highest to head home from Alex Iwobi’s corner delivery. The visitors doubled their lead seven minutes later after being awarded a penalty, with Jimenez calmly converting from the spot to make it 2-0.
Sunderland responded in the 76th minute when Enzo Le Fee converted a penalty to reduce the deficit and spark hopes of a comeback. The hosts pushed forward in search of an equaliser, committing more players into attack as the game opened up.
That attacking intent left gaps at the back and Fulham capitalised late on. Iwobi made a decisive run and finished cleverly over goalkeeper Robin Roefs to restore the two goal cushion and seal all three points for the visitors.
The result lifts Fulham to 37 points and into 10th place with 11 matches remaining, leapfrogging four teams in the standings. Sunderland remain on 36 points and slip to 12th after suffering a third straight defeat.
Calvin Bassey played the full 90 minutes and was instrumental in keeping Sunderland’s pressure in check. He recorded eight clearances, one interception and three recoveries, won four of his seven ground duels, made 54 touches and completed 25 of his 35 passes in a composed and authoritative defensive display.
