Mahmoud Trezeguet scored twice as Al Ahly secured a 2-0 home victory over Young Africans in their Group B matchday three clash of the 2025/2026 CAF Champions League, Trybal News reports.
The 31 year old winger broke the deadlock three minutes into first half stoppage time before sealing the win with a second goal in the 75th minute, earning Man of the Match honors and taking his tally to five goals in the competition.
Al Ahly head coach Jess Thorup handed a debut to new signing Marwan Othman in attack, while Mostafa Shobeir continued in goal with Mohamed El Shenawy still unavailable.
The Cairo giants dominated possession from the start but found it difficult to break down a disciplined Young Africans defence. Despite seeing most of the ball, Al Ahly were repeatedly frustrated and even looked vulnerable on the counter.
Young Africans created several dangerous moments, forcing Shobeir into a series of fine saves from long range efforts and quick transitions.
The breakthrough eventually came late in the first half when Mohamed Hany delivered a precise cross from the right and Trezeguet rose above his marker to head the ball into the bottom corner.
Young Africans pushed forward in the second half in search of an equaliser, leaving spaces that Al Ahly began to exploit. In the 66th minute, Thorup introduced Nejc Gradišar to add more attacking energy.
The pressure paid off 15 minutes from time when Emam Ashour played Trezeguet through and the winger calmly fired a right footed shot into the net from the left side of the box to make it 2-0.
Gradišar nearly added a third in the 78th minute but his close range effort went just wide. Thorup later made further changes, bringing on Taher Mohamed Taher and Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane to see out the match.
Young Africans goalkeeper Djigui Diarra made several late saves to keep the scoreline down, but Al Ahly remained in control until the final whistle.
The result puts Al Ahly top of Group B with seven points. Young Africans stay second with four points, while FAR Rabat and JS Kabylie sit third and fourth respectively with one point each.
Al Ahly will travel to Tanzania to face Young Africans again in the return fixture on January 31.
