The Confederation of African Football has approved a request from the Nigeria Football Federation to change the venue for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup third round qualifying match between Nigeria (Falconets) and Senegal, scheduled for Saturday, 7 February 2026.
The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that the first leg encounter will now take place at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta, Ogun State, instead of the originally proposed venue. The update was confirmed by the NFF Director of Competitions, Ruth David, who stated that all necessary approvals have been granted for the switch.
Following the decision, the Falconets, who have been camping and training in Ibadan in preparation for the crucial fixture, are expected to relocate to Abeokuta in the coming days. The move will allow the team time to adjust to the playing surface and surroundings at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex ahead of the match.
Nigeria reached the third round of the qualifiers after a dominant performance against Rwanda, winning the two legged tie 5-0 on aggregate. The Falconets will now face a tough test against Senegal, with the winner of the tie advancing to the final round of the qualification series.
The last qualifying round will determine one of Africa’s representatives at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, with the successful team set to meet either Guinea Bissau or Malawi for a place at the tournament, which will be held in Poland from 5 to 27 September 2026.
