Atletico Madrid have reached a full agreement with Atalanta to sign Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman in a deal worth €40 million, with all details now settled between the clubs and the player. The Spanish side have also improved their salary offer, paving the way for the Nigerian international to complete a move to La Liga.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the breakthrough, stating:”🚨🔴⚪️ Ademola Lookman to Atlético Madrid, here we go! The agreement is in place on every detail.€35m fixed fee, €5m add-ons to Atalanta and long term deal agreed by Lookman after decision last night.Atlético, planning now for travel and medical next for the Nigerian. 🇳🇬”
The agreement follows the collapse of negotiations between Atalanta and Fenerbahce, which stalled late on Friday night despite the Turkish club’s willingness to commit close to €40 million for the 28 year old. Reports from Italy indicated that talks broke down due to disagreements over payment structure and the required bank guarantees, preventing the deal from progressing.
Fenerbahce had made Ademola Lookman a priority target before the January transfer window closed, with officials from both clubs holding meetings in an effort to finalise the transfer. However, with no resolution reached, Atletico Madrid moved decisively to conclude negotiations and secure the forward’s signature.
Ademola Lookman is now expected to travel to Madrid to undergo a medical before completing his move. He departs Atalanta with his contract originally set to run until June 2027. During the current campaign, he made 19 appearances across Serie A and the UEFA Champions League, registering three goals and two assists in a season that has been described as mixed for the former CAF African Player of the Year.
