Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare came on in the 71st minute for Wolverhampton Wanderers, but it was not enough to prevent a 2–0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
City took the lead early through Omar Marmoush in the 6th minute before Antoine Semenyo doubled the advantage just before half-time. Wolves showed more fight after the break and came close to scoring when João Gomes fired a free-kick just past the post, with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma fully stretched, while Jørgen Strand Larsen later flashed a shot across goal as the visitors searched for a way back into the contest.
Arokodare, who was brought into the action to boost Wolves’ attack, registered one shot and completed eight passes during his time on the pitch, but City’s defence stayed solid to keep a clean sheet. Pep Guardiola later introduced Erling Haaland and Jérémy Doku to help see out the game, while Wolves were denied late when Yerson Mosquera’s header hit the crossbar in the closing minutes.
Despite the late push and the introduction of Arokodare, Wolves could not break through, as City held on to secure all three points.
