Alex Iwobi delivered a standout performance with a goal and an assist as Fulham F.C. secured an impressive 3-1 away victory over Sunderland A.F.C. to climb back into the top half of the Premier League table.
Fulham entered the contest looking to halt a three game losing run and produced a disciplined display before taking control early in the second half. Raul Jimenez broke the deadlock in the 54th minute when he rose highest to head home from Iwobi’s well delivered corner kick. The visitors doubled their advantage seven minutes later after being awarded a penalty, and Jimenez calmly converted from the spot to make it 2-0.
Sunderland responded in the 76th minute through Enzo Le Fee, who converted a penalty to reduce the deficit and give the home side hope of a comeback. The Black Cats pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but their attacking intent left spaces at the back.
Fulham capitalised on that openness late on. Alex Iwobi made a decisive run and produced a composed finish over goalkeeper Robin Roefs to seal the victory and restore the two goal cushion. The strike capped an influential individual display from the Nigerian midfielder.
The win moves Fulham onto 37 points, lifting them to 10th place with 11 matches remaining as they leapfrogged four teams in the standings. Sunderland, now on 36 points, have suffered three consecutive defeats and drop to 12th after their strong start to the campaign.
Alex Iwobi featured for 88 minutes before being replaced by Jorge Cuenca. He completed 31 of his 33 passes, recorded 38 touches and registered two shots on target in his 21st Premier League appearance of the season.
