Alex Iwobi delivered a disciplined and energetic midfield display as Fulham FC came from behind to defeat Stoke City 2-1 at the bet365 Stadium and secure a place in the FA Cup fifth round.

Fulham entered the tie after making 10 changes to the side that lost to Manchester City in midweek, while Stoke City were aiming to end a difficult run of form following their previous round victory over Coventry. The hosts made the brighter start and were rewarded in the 19th minute when Bae Jun-ho finished off a well worked move to give Mark Robins’ side the lead.

Despite falling behind, Fulham gradually settled into the contest and began to assert control, especially after the break. Their pressure paid off in the 55th minute when Brazilian winger Kevin cut in from the left and fired a first time shot into the bottom corner to level the score.

Stoke struggled to cope with Fulham’s growing dominance in the second half and the decisive moment arrived in the 84th minute. Under sustained pressure, goalkeeper Tommy Simkin attempted a short pass to Tatsuki Seko inside the box. Harrison Reed reacted quickly, dispossessed Seko and calmly slotted the ball home to complete the turnaround and send the visitors through.

Alex Iwobi played the full 90 minutes and was instrumental in Fulham’s control of midfield. He completed 68 of his 73 passes, registered 84 touches and recorded three shots on goal, although he missed one clear opportunity. The Nigerian international also contributed five recoveries and won both of his attempted tackles in a strong all round performance as Fulham advanced in the competition.
