Nigerian athletes have received all their financial entitlements following the conclusion of the first phase of camping in Asaba ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) confirmed the development in a statement released on Saturday, addressing concerns raised after a viral video showed some athletes expressing frustration over delayed camp allowances.

In its response, the federation attributed the delay to a temporary third-party processing issue, stressing that it did not reflect any lack of commitment to the welfare of athletes.

The AFN also dismissed claims of poor treatment at the camp, noting that reports of inhumane conditions, lack of electricity, or neglect of basic welfare were inaccurate.

According to the statement, all funds for the Asaba camp in Delta State were duly approved and disbursed by the National Sports Commission (NSC) through the federation’s treasurer, in line with established financial procedures.

The breakdown of payments showed that each athlete received ₦100,000 for transportation and ₦75,000 as camp allowance, while coaches were paid ₦100,000 for transportation and an additional ₦100,000 as camp allowance.

The federation further stated that athletes and officials were accommodated in a well-rated hotel facility considered suitable for a delegation of that size, with feeding arrangements meeting the nutritional demands of a high-performance training camp.

The AFN added that details of the next phase of camping ahead of the Commonwealth Games will be announced in due course.
