Ademola Lookman was unable to exert the same level of influence as Atlético Madrid fell 3-0 to FC Barcelona in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final, but still progressed to the final on aggregate.

Atlético Madrid recorded a resounding 4-0 victory over Barcelona in the first leg on February 12, with the Super Eagles Striker finding the net and also registering an assist for Julián Alvarez in a commanding display.

The return leg at Camp Nou followed a different pattern. Barcelona dominated possession from the outset, keeping Atlético pinned back for extended periods. Diego Simeone’s side adopted a compact defensive structure to protect their advantage, limiting spaces and focusing on containment rather than expansive attacking play.

Marc Bernal struck twice for the hosts, while Raphinha converted a stoppage-time penalty in the first half to secure a 3-0 win on the night. Lookman was substituted in the 58th minute as Atlético adjusted tactically in response to Barcelona’s growing control.

Before his withdrawal, Lookman recorded 32 touches, completed 17 passes with 12 accurate, and registered two shots, including a diving header that narrowly missed the target.

Despite the second-leg defeat, Atlético’s commanding first-leg performance proved decisive, confirming their place in the final for the first time since the 2012/13 season, where they will face either Real Sociedad or Athletic Bilbao.
