Ademola Lookman was on target for Atlético Madrid, but they were edged 3–2 by Real Madrid in the Madrid derby at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Real Madrid started strongly, with Dani Carvajal forcing an early save and Federico Valverde hitting the post, while Andriy Lunin denied Marcos Llorente at the other end.

Atlético took the lead 12 minutes before halftime through Lookman. A low cross from Matteo Ruggeri was cleverly flicked on by Giuliano Simeone into his path, and the Super Eagles forward side-footed home from close range for his fifth goal since joining the club.

The hosts turned the game around early in the second half after Dávid Hancko fouled Brahim Díaz, allowing Vinícius Júnior to equalise from the penalty spot. Shortly after, Valverde capitalised on a defensive error to give Real Madrid the lead.

Atlético responded midway through the half when Nahuel Molina scored from distance to make it 2–2, but Vinícius Júnior restored Real Madrid’s advantage with a curling finish from the edge of the box.

Late efforts from Julián Álvarez, who struck the post, and Alexander Sørloth were not enough to salvage a result for Atlético, while Trent Alexander-Arnold tested the goalkeeper with a free-kick at the other end. Valverde was also sent off late in the game.

Lookman played 57 minutes, recording 26 touches, completing 17 of his 18 passes, and scoring with his only shot on target.

The win keeps Real Madrid within touching distance of leaders Barcelona, narrowing the gap to four points with nine matches remaining, while Atlético Madrid stay fourth on 57 points after missing the opportunity to climb to third.
