Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen FC have completed the signing of Nigerian international midfielder Afeez Aremu Olalekan from German club FC Kaiserslautern, sealing a move that will keep him at Pittodrie until 2028, subject to visa formalities and international clearance.
The 26-year-old becomes one of the Dons’ key additions in the current transfer window as the club continues to strengthen its midfield department ahead of the new campaign. Aremu arrives in Scotland with valuable experience from German football, where he built a reputation for his energy, ball-winning ability and strong physical presence in the centre of the park.
Aberdeen sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel, who played a major role in bringing the deal over the line, described the midfielder as a profile the club had been eager to add to the squad. He noted that Aremu’s strength, robustness and exposure to a highly competitive league in Germany were important factors in the decision to move for him, adding that the Nigerian is expected to bring more bite and intensity to the team’s midfield play.
Reacting to the move, Aremu confirmed his departure from Kaiserslautern with an emotional message to his former club, teammates and supporters. The midfielder admitted that saying goodbye was difficult, especially after building strong relationships within the squad and with the fans, but expressed gratitude for the support he received during his time in Germany. He wished the club well in the future, signing off with a heartfelt “Forza FCK.”
Aremu, who has represented Nigeria at international level, is now set to begin a new chapter in Scottish football, where Aberdeen will hope his blend of strength, experience and work rate can make an immediate impact as they push for success in domestic competitions and on the European stage.
