Nigeria’s Flying Eagles booked their place in the final of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship after defeating hosts Côte d’Ivoire 4-3 on penalties following a pulsating 2-2 draw after extra time, Trybal News reports.

The hosts, who had conceded only once throughout the tournament before the semi-final, made a strong start and were rewarded in the 17th minute with the opening goal after dominating possession and creating the better chances.

Nigeria responded after the break, with captain Habila Simeon restoring parity in the 68th minute. The defender powered home a header from Oraro Lucky’s long throw to spark the Flying Eagles into life.

With the sides level at 1-1 after regulation time, Abdul Maikaba’s men completed the turnaround early in extra time. Oraro Lucky again caused problems with another long throw, and Aliyu Abubakar headed Nigeria into a 2-1 lead.

Côte d’Ivoire, however, refused to bow out and found an equaliser in the 105th minute to force a penalty shootout.

Goalkeeper Clinton Lawani proved the difference from the spot, producing two crucial saves as the Flying Eagles prevailed 4-3 on penalties to secure their place in the final.

Nigeria will now have the chance to compete for the WAFU B U-20 title after overcoming one of the tournament favourites on home soil.
