Nigeria’s Super Falcons will step up preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a week-long training camp in Mohammedia, Morocco, beginning July 15, as the countdown to their quest for an unprecedented 11th continental title enters its final phase, Trybal News reports.

The 10-time African champions are among the favourites for the tournament, which will run from July 25 to August 16 in Morocco, with qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil also on the line.

Head coach Justine Madugu is expected to unveil his final 24-player squad before the team’s departure. The camp in Mohammedia will provide the coaching crew with its last opportunity to fine-tune tactics, build team cohesion and sharpen fitness levels before the Super Falcons move to Rabat for the championship.

Nigeria have been drawn in Group C and will begin their title defence against Malawi on Tuesday, July 28, at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat. They will then face Zambia on Saturday, August 1, before concluding the group stage against Egypt on Wednesday, August 5, at the Olympic Stadium.

As the Super Falcons intensify preparations, their opening opponents, Malawi, have made late adjustments to their technical crew ahead of the tournament.

The Football Association of Malawi has appointed experienced South African coach Sudesh Singh as Technical Adviser to satisfy Confederation of African Football (CAF) coaching regulations, which require every head coach at the tournament to possess a CAF A Coaching Licence.

Although Malawi head coach Lovemore Fazili remains responsible for team selection, tactics and overall management, Singh will officially occupy the lead coaching role on the bench during matches.

Malawi have also strengthened their backroom staff with the appointment of Tyrese Steyn as Performance Analyst, a role that will focus on opposition scouting, match analysis and performance data collection throughout the competition.

For Nigeria, however, the focus remains firmly on ensuring the Super Falcons arrive at the tournament in peak condition as they seek to extend their dominance of African women’s football and reclaim the continental crown.
