Edo Queens have been crowned champions of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership after finishing top of the Super Six standings with 10 points from five matches in Port Harcourt, Trybal News reports.

The Benin City side secured the title on Sunday following a goalless draw against defending champions Bayelsa Queens in their final fixture of the season. The result proved enough to hand Edo Queens the crown after fellow contenders Nasarawa Amazons and Rivers Angels also played out a stalemate in the day’s other decisive encounter.

Edo Queens path to the title was far from straightforward. The former champions began their Super Six campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Nasarawa Amazons, raising doubts about their chances of challenging for the trophy.

However, Moses Aduku’s side responded in impressive fashion. A 2-1 victory over FC Robo Queens got their campaign back on track before a dominant 6-2 win against Abia Angels showcased their attacking strength. Forward Chioma Moses emerged as one of the standout performers of the tournament, playing a key role in the team’s resurgence.

A crucial victory over hosts Rivers Angels further strengthened Edo Queens title ambitions. After Rivers Angels drew level early in the second half, substitute Precious Oscar made an immediate impact before Chioma Moses struck the decisive goal to hand her side a vital three points.

The result left Edo Queens in pole position heading into the final day, where a disciplined performance against Bayelsa Queens ensured they completed the job and returned to the summit of women’s football in Nigeria.

The title is Edo Queens second NWFL Premiership triumph and sees them regain the trophy from Bayelsa Queens. The achievement also earns the club the right to represent Nigeria at the WAFU B qualifying tournament for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Having recovered from an opening-day setback, Edo Queens success in Port Harcourt was built on resilience, consistency and decisive performances in key moments, qualities that ultimately separated them from the rest of the field.
