Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Ademola Lookman will spend time on the sidelines after picking up an injury during their Copa del Rey final defeat to Real Sociedad.
Lookman made a strong impact in the game, opening the scoring for Atletico, but his night was cut short shortly after the hour mark when he was forced off and replaced by Nicolas Gonzalez. His withdrawal came just two minutes past the 60th minute, raising immediate concern on the bench.
The club has not disclosed the exact nature of the injury, but confirmed that both Lookman and Alexander Sorloth ended the match with discomfort and will now be carefully managed by the medical team.
“Ademola Lookman and Alexander Sørloth finished the Copa del Rey final with discomfort,” the club said in a statement.
” The club’s medical staff have conducted tests that advise maximum caution to avoid the risk of injury, so they will follow an individualized plan in the coming days, training separately from the group. Their return to training with their teammates will depend on how their discomfort progresses. ”
The update means Lookman will now follow a tailored recovery programme, with no fixed timeline yet placed on his return as Atletico look to avoid aggravating the issue during a crucial stage of the season.
The Nigerian forward only joined Diego Simeone’s side from Atalanta in January and has quickly settled into the squad, contributing seven goals and four assists in 18 appearances across all competitions.
