Tobi Amusan opened her 2026 season with an impressive performance, finishing second in the women’s 200m at the Velocity Fest in Jamaica.

Better known for her dominance in the hurdles, the Nigerian star showed her versatility on the track with a strong sprint display, posting a season’s best time of 23.25 seconds. Her effort earned her a runner-up finish behind Jamaican sprint legend Elaine Thompson-Herah, who took first place in 22.61 seconds.

Another home athlete, Ackera Nugent, completed the podium in third with a time of 23.35 seconds in what proved to be a competitive race.

Amusan’s performance signals a positive start to her campaign as she continues to fine-tune her form ahead of major international competitions later in the season.
