Nigeria’s Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the overturned result of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, backing Senegal with a pointed reaction on social media.
The Confédération Africaine de Football Appeal Board ruled that Senegal forfeited the final against Morocco, awarding Morocco a 3–0 victory after citing breaches of competition regulations.
Senegal had originally won the match 1–0 on the pitch. During the closing stages, players briefly walked off in protest following a controversial penalty decision, but later returned to complete the game and held on to secure victory before being crowned champions.
However, in a ruling delivered three months after the final, CAF determined that Senegal’s actions fell under violations of Articles 82 and 84, leading to the forfeiture decision and reversal of the result.
Reacting to the development, Oshoala posted: “In CAF book, not in OUR book.” The statement has since drawn widespread attention, with many interpreting it as a show of support for Senegal.
The forward also reposted a video shared by Senegal’s official social media accounts, showing players celebrating with the trophy on a bus, surrounded by fans singing and chanting in jubilation.
The video, released in response to the verdict, has gone viral, serving as a symbolic assertion of Senegal’s on-field triumph despite the official decision.
Oshoala, a multiple-time African Women’s Player of the Year, remains one of the most influential voices in African football, and her reaction has added further intensity to the debate generated by CAF’s ruling.
The decision continues to spark discussion across the continent, with fans and stakeholders divided over the outcome and its implications for the game.
