Five Nigerian internationals were involved as Nottingham Forest and Fulham shared the points in a 0-0 draw in Matchday 30 of the English Premier League at the City Ground.

Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi featured for Nottingham Forest, while Fulham fielded Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi, with Samuel Chukwueze also coming off the bench for the visitors in a tightly contested encounter that produced few clear chances.

The result helped Nottingham Forest climb out of the relegation zone on goal difference, moving above West Ham and drawing level on points with Tottenham, who were scheduled to play later in the day. Despite the slight improvement in their league position, Forest will feel the match represented a missed opportunity to secure a vital home victory.

Forest struggled to create meaningful chances early in the game but came close inside the opening 10 minutes. Elliot Anderson burst into the penalty area and created space for a shot after a clever cutback, only to drag his effort wide of the target.

Fulham were also unable to generate sustained pressure, though they nearly broke the deadlock through Calvin Bassey. The Nigerian defender rose to meet a free kick delivery but directed his header straight at goalkeeper Matz Sels when he appeared well placed to score.

As the first half progressed, Forest attempted to threaten from distance. Morgan Gibbs White and Nico Dominguez both tested Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno with shots from outside the box, but the German stopper dealt comfortably with the attempts.

The start of the second half brought a moment of excitement when substitute Dan Ndoye appeared to win a penalty after being brought down in the area. Referee Sam Barrott initially pointed to the spot, but the assistant referee quickly raised his flag for offside, ruling out the decision.

Forest came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 57th minute when Ola Aina pushed forward from right back and found himself in an advanced position. After receiving a pass from Murillo, the Nigerian defender unleashed a powerful strike from around 20 yards that crashed against the crossbar before bouncing away to safety.

The hosts thought they had finally scored in the 63rd minute when Ndoye was played through by Neco Williams and calmly slotted past Leno. However, a VAR check confirmed that Ndoye had strayed marginally offside and the goal was disallowed.

Fulham nearly capitalised on that reprieve moments later when Rodrigo Munoz saw his shot blocked by Aina inside the penalty area. From the resulting corner, Sasa Lukic fired an effort that drifted narrowly wide.

Forest had one final opportunity late in the match when Anderson slipped a pass into the path of Taiwo Awoniyi in the 88th minute. The Nigerian striker, who had come on earlier in the second half, created space for a shot but dragged his effort wide of the post.

Individually, several Nigerian players produced notable performances. Ola Aina delivered a strong display in defence for Forest, completing the full 90 minutes while winning all of his tackles and aerial duels. He also recorded three recoveries, 81 touches and completed 38 of his 44 passes.

Awoniyi, introduced in the 63rd minute, registered two shots including one big chance and had 11 touches during his time on the pitch.

For Fulham, Calvin Bassey produced a commanding performance across the entire match. The defender won all his ground duels, made six recoveries and completed 56 of his 63 passes while recording 76 touches in what was widely regarded as a man of the match display.

Alex Iwobi also played the full 90 minutes for Fulham, completing 39 of his 47 passes and finishing with 60 touches, though he did not register a shot during the game. Samuel Chukwueze entered the match in the 62nd minute and completed six of his 14 passes while recording 16 touches.

The draw leaves Nottingham Forest in 17th place with 29 points as they continue to battle against relegation, while Fulham remain in mid table in 11th position with 41 points.
