Esperance Sportive de Tunis have appointed Christian Bracconi as interim head coach following the dismissal of Maher Kanzari, with the Frenchman taking charge of the first team with immediate effect Trybal News reports.

The Beb Souika club confirmed the development in an official statement, announcing that Bracconi, who previously served as assistant technical director, will lead the team on a temporary basis while the search for a new permanent coach continues.

Christian Bracconi will oversee training sessions and will be on the bench when Esperance face Petro Luanda in their CAF Champions League group stage match at the end of the week. The fixture is decisive for the Blood and Gold, who need at least a draw to secure qualification for the quarterfinals of the competition.

Esperance currently sit second in their group and hold a superior goal difference over Petro Luanda, giving them a slight advantage heading into the final round of matches.

Kanzari was relieved of his duties on Sunday evening after Esperance suffered a 1-0 away defeat to Stade Malien. The result complicated the club’s path to the knockout stage and ultimately led to the decision to make a change on the technical bench as the team looks to stabilise ahead of a crucial continental encounter.
