South African side Chippa United have officially confirmed the departure of Nigerian international Stanley Nwabali after the goalkeeper submitted a formal request to leave the club.
The Betway Premiership outfit revealed in a statement on Thursday that the decision to release the shot-stopper was reached after careful internal consideration, bringing his time with the Chilli Boys to an end.
Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart the club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release,” the club stated.
Chippa United also praised the goalkeeper for his professionalism, dedication, and service during his stay, acknowledging the role he played within the squad.
We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated.”
Since joining the Eastern Cape outfit, Nwabali established himself as one of the team’s most dependable performers. During the 2023/24 campaign, he recorded 12 clean sheets in 29 matches, helping the club retain their top-flight status.
His consistency continued in subsequent seasons. At one point, the Super Eagles goalkeeper registered eight clean sheets in 17 league appearances, placing him among the stronger performers in the division.
In the ongoing 2025/26 season, Nwabali has played 934 minutes, made 26 saves, maintained a 61.9% save rate, recorded two clean sheets, and saved two penalties, underlining his shot-stopping quality. Additionally, he has conceded 16 goals in 11 league outings while keeping three clean sheets during the campaign.
His performances at club level also strengthened his reputation internationally, where he became a regular presence in Nigeria’s Super Eagles setup.
Although the club did not disclose details regarding his next destination, his exit is expected to spark interest across the transfer market following several impressive seasons in South Africa.
Chippa United concluded their message by wishing the Nigerian goalkeeper success in the next phase of his career.
The club wishes Stanley every success in the next chapter of his career and in all his future endeavours.”
As Nwabali departs Port Elizabeth, attention will now shift to where the experienced goalkeeper will continue his professional journey.
