With just 11 days remaining until the 11th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, organisers have unveiled an additional ₦11 million prize fund dedicated solely to Nigerian athletes competing in the 42km race. The incentive comes alongside the overall prize package available to all participants.
The initiative, covering both male and female categories, highlights the marathon’s continued commitment to developing local talent while boosting both grassroots and elite long-distance running across the country.
A total of ₦5.5 million has been allocated to each gender, with the prize money distributed among the top 10 Nigerian finishers. The first Nigerian runner to cross the line will receive ₦2 million, while second and third places will earn ₦1.5 million and ₦1 million respectively.
The fourth-place finisher will pocket ₦500,000, followed by ₦200,000 for fifth and ₦100,000 for sixth place. Runners finishing from seventh to tenth will each take home ₦50,000, a structure designed to encourage stronger competition among local athletes.
Organisers believe the dedicated prize fund will further motivate Nigerian runners, expand participation, and provide a platform for homegrown athletes to test themselves against top international competitors.
