French Ligue 1 side Marseille have secured the services of Nigerian midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi from Belgian outfit Zulte Waregem in a deal valued at approximately €6 million, finalized on winter transfer deadline day.
The 22-year-old arrived in France earlier this week to complete his medical and sign the necessary paperwork, ending weeks of speculation about his future following an impressive run of form in Belgium.
Nnadi reportedly drew attention from a number of European clubs, with Premier League side West Ham United among those linked to the midfielder. However, Marseille are believed to have acted decisively late in the transfer window to position themselves ahead of other suitors as they aim to reinforce their midfield.
Known for his strong work ethic and calm presence shielding the backline, the Nigerian could provide extra balance in midfield if the move goes through. The reported transfer fee would also rank him among Zulte Waregem’s biggest sales, highlighting his steady rise and increasing value.
The Nigeria international made 18 appearances for the Belgian club, where his consistent displays played an important role in their campaign and caught the attention of top scouts across Europe.
Nnadi started his professional journey in 2021 with Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv, gaining his first experience in European football before securing a move to Zulte Waregem in January 2024. That transfer marked a significant step in his career and helped set the stage for a potential high-profile switch to France.
His consistent displays quickly established him as one of Waregem’s standout performers and earned him his first senior invitation to the Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he further boosted his profile on the international stage.
Marseille view the Nigerian as both a long-term investment and a player ready to contribute immediately. He now begins a new chapter in France and will be keen to make a strong impression in Ligue 1.
