Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly rejected a January approach from Chelsea for Nigerian midfielder Jennifer Echegini, choosing to keep the highly rated Super Falcons star as they continue their push for domestic honours.

French reports indicate that Chelsea made a formal enquiry for the 24-year-old, but PSG wasted little time in shutting down the possibility of a transfer. The club considers Echegini a key component of their midfield and are determined to maintain stability during a crucial phase of the season.

The Nigerian international, who is part of the Super Falcons squad that claimed the 2023 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) bronze medal, has continued to enhance her reputation both at club and international level. Since arriving in Paris in July 2024 on a three-year contract, she has settled quickly, bringing energy, composure, and creativity to the centre of the park.

Her ability to progress the ball, connect attacking moves, and remain calm under pressure has earned her the confidence of the coaching crew, particularly in high-stakes matches. PSG believe her presence provides the tactical balance needed as they battle for the league title.

Following their early exit from European competition, the French side are focused on finishing strongly at home and see little value in losing an influential player midway through the campaign. Squad depth and continuity are viewed as essential with fixtures coming thick and fast.

For Chelsea, the rejection effectively ends hopes of securing the Nigerian before the transfer window closes, with talks understood not to have progressed beyond the initial stage. Meanwhile, PSG will count on Echegini’s growing influence and winning pedigree as they aim to secure silverware this season.
