Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has urged his players to remain focused and disciplined following Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique, a result that sealed the team’s place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Speaking after the match, Chelle welcomed the convincing performance but cautioned against complacency, stressing that success at the tournament would depend on continued improvement and collective discipline.

I’m happy about this game, Chelle said. It’s a victory with four goals, but the reality is we just won one game. If we want to be ambitious, we have to continue to improve.

The coach’s remarks on discipline came amid scenes late in the game when Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman were involved in a brief on-field disagreement, after which Osimhen walked straight down the tunnel following the final whistle.

Chelle, however, downplayed any suggestion of unrest within the squad, insisting that internal matters would be handled privately.

My job is to keep the players very focused in their training sessions and in their behaviour,” he said. Everything that happens in the life of the group will stay in the group.

The Super Eagles boss went on to praise his players for their application and intensity against Mozambique, describing the performance as strong but reminding that it represents just one step in the tournament.

Nigeria will now shift attention to a demanding quarterfinal clash against either Algeria or DR Congo, with Chelle emphasizing ambition, intensity and preparation as key to their next challenge.
