The Super Eagles of Nigeria delivered their most dominant performance of AFCON 2025 so far, becoming the first team in the tournament to score four goals in a single match with a commanding 4-0 victory over Mozambique at the Stade de Fès. The Super Eagles, chasing a fourth continental crown, faced a Mozambican side making their first-ever appearance in the knockout stages.

Nigeria started brightly and nearly went ahead in the 6th minute when Alex Iwobi’s pass deflected back into his path, allowing him to fire a quick shot from the edge of the box that drew a superb save from goalkeeper Hernâni Siluane. Sustained pressure eventually told in the 20th minute as Ademola Lookman powered a precise finish past Siluane to give Nigeria a deserved lead.

Just five minutes later it was 2-0. Iwobi again created the danger, slipping Lookman in behind the defence, and his low cross across goal was calmly tapped in by Victor Osimhen. The Galatassary striker had another excellent chance moments later but headed wide from close range. Nigeria continued to control possession and tempo, entering the break with a comfortable two-goal cushion.

The second half began much like the first, and Nigeria quickly extended their advantage in the 47th minute. Lookman weaved into the box before squaring the ball for Osimhen, who finished from point-blank range to make it 3-0. Mozambique struggled to cope defensively, though Siluane made several strong saves to prevent further damage, including a full-stretch stop to deny Akor Adams.

Nigeria were relentless, and the fourth goal arrived in the 75th minute. Lookman once again played creator, sliding a neat pass to Akor Adams, who drove a powerful right-footed strike beyond the goalkeeper to seal a comprehensive victory. Mozambique’s substitute goalkeeper Urrubal later produced a fine save to prevent a fifth Nigerian goal, but the outcome had long been settled.

Historically, The Super Eagles have dominated this fixture, and that trend continued as they remained unbeaten against Mozambique across all competitions. With this emphatic win, the Super Eagles booked their place in the Quarterfinals, where they will face the winner of the clash between Algeria and DR Congo as their pursuit of AFCON glory gathers momentum.
