The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Sports Commission, has fulfilled its 2024 pledge on housing rewards following the Super Eagles silver medal finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire. The presentation took place on the eve of Nigeria’s opening match against Tanzania at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco at the team’s base in Fez.
Housing certificates were formally handed over to the players by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, marking a major step in the implementation of the promised incentives. “The Federal Government of Nigeria has fulfilled its 2024 promise on housing rewards following the Super Eagles’ silver-medal finish at the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire,” read the official announcement on the Super Eagles social media platforms.
Mallam Shehu Dikko has also confirmed that all rewards approved for the Super Eagles, Super Falcons and D’Tigress have been fully processed. These rewards follow the Super Eagles’ runner-up finish at the 2023 AFCON, the Super Falcons’ continental success and D’Tigress’ achievements on the African stage.
Speaking earlier on Friday, December 19, during an interview on Arise Television, Dikko provided clarity on the scope of the rewards, which include houses, land, national honours and financial incentives.
“I can tell you Mr President has already approved the houses and the land for the Super Eagles, and the National Awards, and the monies for the Super Falcons. All that has been processed,” Dikko said.
He further confirmed that all documentation for the housing allocations is already in place.
“As I speak to you, I have in my possession all the Certificates of Occupancy for the houses of the players in Lagos and Abuja for both the Super Eagles, Super Falcons and D’Tigress.”
According to the NSC chairman, the process for national honours has been concluded, while the release of monetary rewards is nearing completion.
“I have all the certificates for the National Awards. “The money has been processed and is currently at the payment point at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.”
The development brings closure to months of anticipation and signals the government’s commitment to rewarding national teams for their achievements as the Super Eagles begin their AFCON 2025 campaign in Morocco.
