Emiliano Martinez expects to return to action within weeks after undergoing surgery following Chelsea’s 2-0 Premier League win over Everton on Saturday, Trybal News reports.
The 34 year old Argentina international reportedly broke his jaw in a second half collision with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Martinez received treatment for eight minutes before medical staff carried him off on a stretcher. He then went to hospital, where Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso later confirmed that the goalkeeper had suffered concussion.
Despite the setback, Emiliano Martinez offered an encouraging update on Sunday. Wearing a hospital gown, he thanked supporters for their messages and confirmed that the operation had gone well.
“Thanks to everyone for the messages. The operation went well.
“The most important thing is that we won, and kept a clean sheet. In a few weeks we’ll be back.”
Chelsea Football Club also published a statement on their website to reveal Emiliano Martinez’s current status.
“Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has undergone successful surgery on a fractured jaw.
Martinez was injured following a collision midway through the second half of our 2-0 victory over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.

Penders ready to step in for Chelsea
With Emiliano Martinez facing a spell on the sidelines, Mike Penders looks set to start Chelsea’s next three matches at least.
Chelsea face Tottenham and Manchester United in the Premier League, with a Carabao Cup tie against Liverpool scheduled between those fixtures.
Penders made his Premier League debut against Everton after replacing Martinez. The 21 year old joined Chelsea from Belgian club Genk for £17m in 2024.
Alonso praised the young goalkeeper’s character and said the club had full confidence in him. He also highlighted the importance of having a squad ready to step up when needed.
“Mike has personality. He’s brave and we have full trust with him. He did well when he came on.
“He played in the cup games and whenever he’s needed. Like the other players, whenever they are needed they can perform.
“It’s all about the squad – that all the players feel important and can have their moment whenever they are needed, and that’s very positive.”
