Kelechi Iheanacho extended his remarkable scoring run to 10 consecutive games for club and country, but his goal could not prevent Bursaspor from suffering a 2-1 home defeat to Mardin 1969 Spor in the Turkish First League on Sunday, Trybal News reports.
The Nigeria international brought Bursaspor level in the 81st minute with a powerful left-footed strike from outside the penalty area, cancelling out the visitors’ opener after the home side fell behind.
However, Bursaspor’s hopes of salvaging a point were shattered in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Zdravko Dimitrov scored the winner for Mardin 1969 Spor.
The goal was Iheanacho’s 12th in the league, extending his scoring streak for Bursaspor to nine consecutive matches. He has now recorded 14 goal contributions, comprising 12 goals and two assists, in the competition.
The former Manchester City and Leicester City forward carried his international form into club football after scoring for the Super Eagles in their recent 3-3 draw against Russia in Nizhny Novgorod, where he opened the scoring in the 10th minute.
Iheanacho was influential against Mardin, registering seven shots, four on target, 46 touches and 23 passes, of which 18 were accurate.
His contribution has been particularly significant for Bursaspor, who have scored 17 goals in the 2026–27 campaign, with the Nigerian accounting for 14 goal contributions, equivalent to 82.4 per cent of the team’s total goals.
Despite the defeat, Bursaspor remain second in the standings with 19 points from nine matches, three points behind league leaders Kayserispor.
