The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is set to introduce a new weekend match schedule featuring Friday evening, early Saturday and Sunday kick-offs as part of efforts to enhance the league’s appeal and provide greater flexibility in fixture scheduling, Trybal News reports.

The new arrangement will begin with the Matchday 9 encounter between Shooting Stars and Ranchers Bees at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, on Friday, October 16.

The fixture is scheduled for a 6:00pm kick-off and will mark the second time Shooting Stars host a league match on a Friday this season, following their 2-1 victory over Inter Lagos on Matchday 1.

Early Saturday and Sunday fixtures are expected to be introduced as the season progresses, giving the league a more flexible weekend calendar and creating additional opportunities for supporters to attend and follow matches.

The introduction of Friday evening football could also provide clubs with an opportunity to attract larger crowds and increase the visibility of NPFL matches, particularly in major football cities.

The scheduling adjustment is part of the league’s broader efforts to bring more excitement to the NPFL and align its matchday structure more closely with established practices in other major football leagues around the world.

Further details on the implementation of the new scheduling pattern are expected to emerge as the season progresses.
